The Great Big Thank You

A curved green bean makes the shape of a smile underneath the title
Author: Gill Oliver
Publication year: 2025

Daft, satirical, with several morals for you to choose from at the end…

The TV show, The Great Big Thank You, is feel-good, family entertainment, in which Good Samaritans are reunited with those whose lives they saved. But Christian Tidy – media star and champion of re-wilding – is on a social media collision course with Martha McCann, a woman who talks to her beans and wants to restore her local allotments instead.

Reading, or in this case listening to, one of Gill Oliver’s stories is always a joy. I know I will be smiling at her turns of phrase and in this fable, there is something very real and grounded about the characters... ... The author reads at a gentle pace with clarity that allows the words to speak for themselves.

I enjoyed this story from start to finish.... liked the concept and the believable characters...This is my third book by Gill Oliver and my favourite so far. I listened on audio and was delighted to find that unlike many authors she reads her own work so beautifully.
